Happy Christmas 2009
This is my first Christmas back in England after five years and just watching all of the TV adverts with Santa and all of the Christmas food is putting a smile on my face.
But lets just spare a thought for all those stuck out in Thailand. The above photo was taken on Christmas Day 2008 inside Building No: 3, Bangkwang Central Prison. If you look closely you will see "Santa" standing at the back. Everyone is cooking Christmas dinner on the wood burning stoves with food which has been collected and saved for the last couple of weeks. It takes hours cooking this way and its dirty work.
You can see 'houses' in the background and this area is where we spend our daytime between the hours of 6.30am and 3.30pm, cooking and washing clothes. It hard to believe in this day that people have to live in these conditions, bear in mind that some of the people you see in the photo and many others like them will spend more than twenty years in this area, day in and day out. I'm pleased that my time was only four and a half years. So on Christmas Day please spare a thought for the lads still stuck in there.
I'm pleased to be home with my family and it's the best Christmas present my family could have. I'm really looking forward to my Christmas dinner, it's going to be a treat.
I'll try my best to send as many Christmas cards as I can but please don't think I've forgotten you if you don't get one, it will more than likely be down to a shortage than anything else!
So I'll wish you all a Happy Christmas and New Year .... think about me on Christmas Day sat on my bed with a big grin watching James Bond. God it's good to be home!
Love to you all
